Bikes Beer and Rock'n Roll

[FRA]

Last Thursday, Tendance Roadster was - again - all over the place with its fourth Cafe Racer Tour. Although I missed the first episode, I was there for the second one and I must admit that I was eager to attend this number three! But, you know, sometimes when you expect something too much, you may be kinda disappointed when comes the event. Well, not here. Not this time. Not at all. It was even better than last time.

As soon as I got on location I was offered to sit in an Enfield side-car, and there we were, noisily hitting  Levallois-Perret's streets. Let me tell you that doing so, along with 50 bikes - including a superb Egli-Vincent (yes, you read it well!) - and a pretty monstrous Dodge Challenger Daytona, well, let me tell you that… It is well worth… Well, I don't know what exactly but - and that's my point - we got our kicks for good. It was the kind of experience you want to share with friends, drinking a pint of Guiness and listening to some cool rock. Talking about the Guiness thing, okay, we had to leave a few bikes at the pub (we got them back on the nest day, just after a light ibuprophen breakfast) and go back home by taxi.

Anyway, some really cool folks were there. Guillaume, Alexandre and Benoit Tirard from Tendance Roadster, off course. There was also Nico, from 4H10, who offered us a live mechanic workshop on the sidewalk, and music-wise I'll let you think about the cool names of the two bands that had us swing all night: The Bad Men, and The Moult Beat.

It all went too fast. It was at the Last Drop Pub of Levallois (big thanks to Pierre for his warm welcome and very much appreciated carrots and beef at 4 AM). Now, I'm waiting for a number 4.

Obsolescent technical progress. Time dismantling propulsive intensity. And all this for … What exactly? To stop 'now' at its ephemeral pinnacle. State of the very maximum instant. Never have we been so advanced, tomorrow we must remember today. therefore, we have to archive each and every bits of right now. It is urgent. Tomorrow we may not be able to go back in time. Unless…

Back From The Future

[FRA]

Cadre poutre aluminium FIOR
Roues GOTTI spécifiques
Freins BREMBO
Carénage fermé étudié en soufflerie

It was in 2010. I was shooting my friend Momo and his Boxer Lamborghini Design 1000, on assignment for Indian automotive magazine Business Standard Motoring.

Yes, I know what you think. Just like that, at first glance, you find her ugly. Well, I don't. I even find her really beautiful. Besides, can you imagine what you'll think about a 2012 Kawasaki Z1000 in 25 years from now? Anyway, beyond these matters of personal taste, we should merely remember that she was created in the mid-eighties, she is a true Lamborghini product, the one only motorcycle that stands in the crossroad of high end supercars and two wheeled vehicles. She is rare. No one knows how many samples are still running, not even Thierry Henriette, her creator, who estimates that some 40 Lamborghini Design were made between 1986 and 1988.

Want a few figures? (remember, we're in 1987)

1000 cc (the early samples were 900 cc) / 125 Hp / 175 Kg
FIOR box aluminum frame
GOTTI specific wheels
BREMBO brakes

A(r)t Work

[FRA]
Vous me suivez ?

According to Belgian Author Amélie Nothomb, in her Character of Rain (2003, Faber and Faber, Paperback), there is an "absolute serenity of the cylinder" which body filters the universe and retains nothing. To me, these words are true and to some extend, they show how this object has a deeper meaning than its mere geometry would suggest. A membrane that protects a flow from everything, or everything from a flow, is definitely a noble part of our all built world. 'see what I mean?

Anyway, wether a talented Belgian Author writes about "the absolute serenity of the cylinder", or a French engineer calculates fluid dynamics, I understand one thing: a lot of brains are concerned with pipes. And so is mine since I was asked to document, illustrate and decorate an international level company that makes plastic cylinders: PIPELIFE.

I was contacted by French communication agency ID&PAC and given a very exciting brief: they asked me to provide them with an artistic series of photos with a particular colorimetric identity that would stand out with an original timeless feel. I just said YES! And I took Nik to Gaillon (Eure, France) for a day of shoot at PIPELIFE's plant. Once back home, it took me quite a while to select only 50 pictures and convert them with my home-made cross-process technique…

Big thanks to ID&PAC and PIPELIFE for trusting me on this particular assignment that focuses precisely on my favorite report theme: what man makes for man.
